Teaching English Thailand - Accommodation
Most of the schools in Thailand provide accommodations to the ESL teachers. Like most Asian accommodations the houses in Thailand are quite small. The accommodations are also devoid of all the amenities and facilities, which the westerners enjoy. The schools in Thailand, where the teachers are given placement can be both in the cities and well as suburbs. The schools in the rural areas have even lesser western amenities in their accommodations. Air conditions, refrigerator, DVD, kitchen and washing machines are usually not available for the teachers. The teachers generally have a bed, closet and a fan is there is no AC. Local Thai ladies can do the laundry in about three to five hundred baht per month.
The accommodations are usually provided to the students free of cost. The schools may sometimes provide accommodation allowance instead of accommodations. The amount paid by the schools in various locations is not same always.
Although the schools provide free accommodation to the teachers, the responsibility of the electric, phone and water bills lies with the teachers. The water bill in Thailand will range from 50-150 baht per month. 5 to 7 baht per unit is charged for electricity and the land lines phones cost 5 baht per minute. Kitchens are rarely present in Thai houses but food in the local restaurants and food outlets is cheap as well tasty.
The ESL teachers in Thailand have
to give a deposit of one or two months of rent. The deposit sometimes is
paid by the schools and later deducted from the salary of the teachers. the
deposit money is around eight to fifteen thousand baht.
